blue angel recreation park

Blue Angel Recreation Park - We recently stayed at a beautiful military camp in Pensacola, Florida: Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area, also known as Blue Angel Park. It is operated by Naval Air Station Pensacola, but is actually 9 miles outside the NAS back gate and off Hwy 98 just before the Lillian Hwy bridge to Alabama.

There are two separate campgrounds here along the north shore of beautiful Perdido Bay: Battleship Row and Anchor Cove, as well as a trailer rental section.

Both camping areas have bathrooms and laundry facilities. Although they don't offer cable or internet, our satellite dish and Verizon reception spots worked great in the Battleship Row area.

One of the great things about this camp is the range of activities. They have a 35-acre wooded paintball field (open weekends only), three championship 18-hole disc golf courses, miniature golf, playgrounds, a beautiful beach, lots of hiking trails, and several geocaches. Blue Angel Outpost Marina has kayaks, paddleboards and sailboats for hourly rentals. They even offer small boat sailing courses by booking from April to September.

You can make reservations online at: http://get.dodlodging.net/propertys/Blue-Angel-Naval-Recreational-Area-Pensacola or by phone through Navy Getaways at 1-877-NAVY BED (628-9233). Blue Angels Park is open year-round to active/retired military and DoD employees and their family members. To check patron eligibility for Navy Escape Parks, click here.

The closest beach area on the Gulf of Mexico is Perdido Key. It's only about a 20-minute drive to Perdido Key National Seashore and State Park, as well as public beach access. Pensacola Beach is actually about an hour away.

While there we visited Uncle Sandy's Bird Park, a parrot rescue and sanctuary. Admission is $5.00 for adults (13+) and $2.00 per child and includes a cup of peanuts to feed the birds. The money goes directly to helping these beautiful birds and educating people about the requirements of owning a parrot, the type of life a parrot lives and how to provide them with the basic needs to keep them happy and healthy. You'll get face-to-face handling of an exotic bird and the opportunity to enter Florida's largest outdoor aviaries. Perdido Children's Park on Gulf Beach Hwy is sure to please your family members of all ages.

The Blue Angels fly over Perdido Children's Park on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 8:30. during the blue angel season~

Located in southwest Pensacola less than 1 mile from the rear gate of Naval Air Station Pensacola, Perdido Children's Park is (in our opinion) the best park in town. What other park can you go to and see the Navy Blue Angels flying over you while your kids play?

This park is a little harder to find on a map, so here are some directions. From Blue Angel Pkwy, turn right onto Gulf Beach Hwy at stop light. Travel approximately 8 miles to Perdido Children's Park on the right, just off Blvd.

This themed community park spans several acres and even includes a nature trail. The park certainly honors our local military and has its own Pensacola flavor.

Perdido Children's Park is open during the day and there is no entrance fee. In addition to the beautiful park, there is also plenty of parking, picnic areas and clean restrooms.

The park is big and usually full of kids especially on kids weekends. With plenty of picnic areas and bathrooms, it's the perfect place to hold a birthday party or other gathering.

And even better, from April to October, you can routinely spot the Navy's famous Blue Angel pilots practicing for their award-winning shows. Blue angels fly right above you as you enjoy this beautiful park. The Blue Angels usually practice for about an hour starting around 8:30. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
