curved glock mag for ar9

Curved Glock Mag For Ar9 - At first I didn't really like the 9mm AR. I don't like the look of Colt light magazines. I like the Glock's rear magazine less. And I don't like the look of the small magwell in the big magwell. The DDLES and QC10 lower 9mm have solved the magwell size problem but used lighter Colt or Glock magazines. Then I saw a picture of the new Sig 9mm MPX and really liked it. It looked like the love child of the AR15 and the MP5 and it got me thinking.

I bought a Wiselite/Sterling 9mm carbine a few years ago and equipped it with an SBR. The gun is fun, but very heavy, 7.6 pounds empty, 8.6 pounds with a full magazine. And the horizontal tank when ignited makes a mess. Regardless, a dual-car tank is best. You can easily load 34 bullets. And it looks like a 9mm sub-rifle magazine is supposed to look - curved. It got me thinking. Some 9mm AR magazine blocks use STEN magazines. You can use STEN boxes in Sterling. This is why farmers tell me that I need to get the Sterling magazine to work in the AR15.

I purchased two GPI 9mm custom lowers from Black Creek Precision in Jacksonville, FL. Designed to use Colt magazines. I sat down with one of the shorts and a Sterling magazine. I spent a few days researching and measuring, then got out the Dremel, some files and sandpaper. After two days (continuously) of fine tuning the tank by hand and using a Dremel on the tank body, I had the bottom to accept some small Sterling tank changes. The magazines lock tightly but drop when the magazine release button is pressed. I recently got my Form 1 back, so I finished putting the gun together. Here is the result:

I only got one on the line, but it worked well from the start. Research on AR15.com told me that the 9mm AR needs the right combination of spring, rubber, and ammo to work properly. So I read a lot before the convention. I went with the 7 oz. Barrier, XP spring and subsonic 147 grain FMJ load. This combination worked well.

The only downside to this design is that the pin will not lock after the last round. But can't go back to Sterling or MP5. I can live with that. The gun will still fire the original Colt style magazine, although it will fit inside the magwell. Special:

The second lowest GPI is currently unchanged. That's how it will stay until I go to the bottom improvement to make sure there are no hidden design flaws. I put it together in a small package. Six months later, there is Form 1.

This is a two step process, upgrade the Sterling magazine, then replace the AR mag magazine to accept the modified magazine.

So, the first step is to change the magazine. There are two types of Sterling magazines. The commercial type is made from four pieces of metal joined together. The second is a military type magazine. The military tank has a one-piece, extruded mag body or a two-piece body with machine stitching. It is a military style magazine that is very easy to translate. The commercial version can be easily repaired but requires welding. First we will cover changing the military magazine.

Converting a Sterling magazine is removing the bolt, making room for the AR bolt, and cutting a hole in the magazine body for the magazine catch. AR.

The components that we will remove are the small metal spacer in front of the magazine, the bolt on the back of the magazine, and the bullet guide at the top of the magazine.

The front block is a solid block that can easily be flattened with the body of the fogger with a Dremel. You'll know you're on your way when you come across copper-colored solder. After boiling, smooth the top with emery paper.

Before cutting the spring vessel, pull out the pin and remove the flat spring. DO NOT RUN THIS SYSTEM IN A MAG BODY! Cut pin holes along the cut line shown and remove the protective part shown. For now, leave the wall as it is.

Cut the wing of the bullet guide, but not too close to the body of the magazine. Then file or use a Dremel to sand down the rest and round the edges until they match the rest of the mag body profile. The top, front of the magazine may need to be trimmed to fit under the bullet guide on the receiver.

Cut the rear of the magazine to match the Colt magazine cutout. In the beginning, cut the space a little. You will be able to adjust for bolt clearance if the magazine well fits the AR magazine well. The notch on the Colt magazine is larger than it should be.

The last thing I did was take some sand paper and go over the top of the tank that goes into the magazine to make it smooth without any edges.

The next part is the most annoying - take the file to the bin shelf of the bottom $200. Put the Dremel away. Use only files and sandpaper. Before you start, remove the magazine button or press the button and turn the button down. If you don't, you will erase the input while the file is in good condition. Also remove the ejector by pressing the pin and remove the bullet guide by pulling out the set screw behind the pivot pin.
